Wang Guoxin
Wang Guoxin, born in the city of Yichang, Hubei province in 1947, is a contemporary professional painter, calligrapher and poet, a national class-one artist who enjoys state council’s allowance. He has showed great interest in painting and calligraphy since his childhood, which led to his broad study on Chinese history, philosophy, classic arts and on such scholar schools as Confucianism, Daoism and Buddhism. His work created at the age of 16 was selected by the art exhibition held by five middle and southern provinces. In 1969 he published his oil painting works and was displayed in the movie News Bulletin. Now he is a member of Comic Strips Committee of China Artists Association, of Chinese Peasants and Workers Central Art committee, and of China Artists Association. In addition, he is the president of Sanxia Art College, visiting professor of Valencienne University of France, and vice president of Beijing Oriental Art Institute.
Due to his deep love for the classic literature in Han and Tang dynasties, Wang Guoxin was dedicated to promote the immortal fine arts of Chinese people. Accordingly, his works are well-known for their long scroll images describing familiar historical themes with his smooth and generous style. Fan zeng, a famous Chinese painter, has compared Wang’s paintings to Du Fu’s poems (popular in Tang dynasty), speaking highly of his great achievement in painting.
Wang Guoxin has received awards from Ministry of Culture, China Fine Arts Association, General Administration of Press and Publication of China. During Switherland’s First International Picture Story Festival, he got the special honorary award. In addition, his national series of Chinese Spirits obtained the golden award at the 2005 Beijing International Arts Exposition. Currently, his many works have been collected by Zhong Nanhai, Great Hall of People, National Liabrary, Chairman Mao Zedong Memorial Hall, Museums and Hong Kong special administrative hall. Besides, His long scroll painting Hundred Horses was granted to foreign leaders as national gift.
