Liu Zhengcheng
Liu Zhengcheng was born in Chengdu, Sichuan Province in 1946 and is now living in Beijing. He once worked as an associate editor for Ren Shi Jian (Human Realm), a large-sized literary magazine in series. In 1985 he was transferred to the Society of Chinese Calligraphers andthen successively worked as deputy secretary-general, associate director of Academic Committeeand chairman as well as editor-in-chief of magazine The Chinese Calligraphy. Now he is the chief president of the Society of International Calligraphers, editor-in-chief of The Complete Cyclopedia of Chinese Calligraphy and guest professor in such academies as Peking University and China University of Technology.
Liu has held positions of member, deputy director and director of judging panels for many times in such exhibitions as National Exhibition of Chinese Calligraphic Art and Exhibition of the Young Calligraphers. He was once awarded “the medal of contribution to international calligraphy” issued by the Society of South Korean Calligraphers and the South Korean school of fine arts and culture as well as the “Special Award for the Dedication to Calligraphic Art” issued by the Society of Chinese Calligraphers.
His collections of short historical novellas include Diyu Bianxiangtu (Metamorphosis in the Hell) and three volumes of Collected Works of Liu Zhengcheng’s Calligraphy. He compiled the two-volume The Cyclopedia of Chinese Calligraphy which had won the 4th National Book Award, the one-hundred-and-eight volume Complete Cyclopedia of Chinese Calligraphy and hundreds of periodicals in The Chinese Calligraphy. He has also published Liu Zhengcheng Calligraphy Album,Collection of Sudao Xinqing (Moods on Road in Shu —— Paintings and Calligraphy by Liu Zhengcheng and Liu Zhengxing), Liu Zhengcheng’s Cursive Version of Home Hasten, Selected Calligraphy Works ofContemporary Chinese Calligraphists —— Calligraphy Works of Liu Zhengcheng. His essays include Yinglun Xingse (Life of England) and A General Outline of Calligraphy.
