Long Xuming
Long Xuming (1946—present), born in Huayang County from Sichuan province, joined the Chinese Photographers Society in 1984. One year later he became a member of Sichuan Affiliation of Chinese Artists Association. Since the year of 1985, Long Xuming firstly founded Chengdu Young Photographers Society, and was the 1st chairman of the society; then he built the Sichuan Young Photographers Society, and assumed the society’s 1st and 2nd chairman. After that, he started the Photography Newspaper Agency and positioned himself as the editor-in-chief, while simultaneously taking other positions such as editor-in-chief of Century Online Chinese Photography Centre Website, of “Big Photography” Website and of the journal of Oriental Photography in Hong Kong. Later, Long Xuming founded the Chinese Western Photography Union and took the position of the union chairman; then he started Chinese Youth Photography Development Community, positioned as its honorary president. After that, he set up the City Photography Union, assuming the union chairman. Meanwhile, he was the officer of 121 National Profession Accreditation Agency in Sichuan province, and the chairman of Chengdu Photography Association.
In 1992, Long Xuming was granted the “Pioneer Cup” award, the highest prize in the field of photography. In addition, without any sponsor, he has volunteered to offer his colored Photography Newspaper to readers for 25 years.
In December of 1980, Long Xuming’s water colored painting “E’Mei” was exhibited in Sichuan Youth Art Exhibition; in 1981, his Chinese painting “White” was displayed in the Leaders’ Art Exhibition held in Sichuan Culture Center. Then in 1983, his “Snaked Mountainous Road” was showed in Sichuan Oil Painting Exhibition. During that period, all kinds of his art works, including Chinese paintings, oil paintings, water paintings, woodcutting, New Year paintings, etc, were on display in many exhibitions held in Sichuan.
After 1985, Long Xuming started to practice his “Three-NO” principle, that is, no exhibition, no sale, and no grant of his works. Instead, for several decades, he silently engaged himself in the further study of the modern paintings, digesting the essence of each painting category.In 1996, Hong Kong Dadi Press published Long Xuming’s Non –donkey Non- horse Volume, comprehensively containing his works in the field of calligraphy, seal cutting, painting, photography and literature.
